Ashima Narain, India
These young wrestlers at the national Akhara Kushti (Indian style wrestling) Tournament, held in Mumbai in 2003, represent the resilience of youth, and its ability to confront the world on its own terms - even when faced with a right-wing Hindu political party (the Shiv Sena which had organised the event) intent on co-opting them into its ranks.
On the left of the frame, two leaders of the Shiv Sena are visible on a banner. On the right, is a garlanded photograph of a religious Hindu leader.
