The photograph is of Karim, a Moroccan boy living in the south of France. Karim lives in a North African community in Orange, home to the only elected member of France's National Front party.
Bompard, the town's mayor, is a prominent member Le Pen's far right party and represents the increasing popularity of fascism in the area. Karim's community on the edge of the town is a series of run-down council estates, a world apart from the smart town centre. Unemployment is high and public services are scarce.
Amidst a growing despair of the ghettoisation of this community, the photograph represents the ability of the young to keep a positive outlook on life and have fun.
