M Ahmed, Bangladesh

This photograph was taken during the last flood, in front of a city market in Mainkganj, some 80 kms away from Dhaka. Following the distribution of cooked food among the flood affected people, the three death defying youths could find no boat or any other means by which to return home; they resorted to big food dixies, which were fastened to bamboo.

It appeared quite unnatural. Only young people could have braved the hazards and performed this daring act. Though the raft was an ingenious design, any carlessness could have carried them to their deaths on the char (reclaimed land).
