2004 AWARDS

The theme for the 2004 Awards was 'Youth' and the winning photos are featured in the Virtual Gallery on this site.

The 1st Prize was £2000 sterling with cash prizes for regional and highly commended winners.

Two new prizes were launched in 2004 - The Dan Eldon Prize and the Young Snappers.

An announcement will appear on this page regarding the 2006 Photoawards at the beginning of November.

The Dan Eldon Prize
TThe Dan Eldon Prize (£250) is awarded to a young photographer aged 18-30 on 1 September 2004, whose work is used for social or humanitarian purposes. Dan Eldon - a photojournalist - was born in London and raised in Kenya. He worked as a photographer for Reuters in Africa, and was only 22 years old when he was killed on a street in Mogadishu in 1993.

The Creative Visions Foundation who sponsor this prize was set up to assist and encourage young photographers, artists and film makers to create work which will help to stimulate positive change in the world. www.creativevisions.org

The same criteria apply for this Prize as for the rest of the Awards but entrants should also submit a short paragraph describing how, why and when the photograph was used for social or humanitarian purposes. Entrants should also submit a short biography, not forgetting to give their date of birth. All photographs entered for the Dan Eldon Prize are also eligible for the overall prize of the 2004 Commonwealth Photographic Awards but only one prize per person will be awarded.

Young Snappers
A special category for children aged between 12 and 18 on 1 September 2004. The winner receives a camera and film. The same entry details apply to this category except the entrant's date of birth must be stated.
