The Pacific Islands
The far flung island states of the Pacific have, regardless of their remoteness, a vociferous and diverse media presence, both print and electronic. Inevitably radio is a key medium for communication in these tiny countries but the advent of the internet has allowed these distant voices to be heard across the world. It has been, on occasion, a troubled area with many papers taking a campaigning stance, often very criticial of government. Because of the limitations of distance, television access was limited until the advent of satellite broadcasting.
