Media
Guyanese newspapers are technically free to criticise the government, although journalists are apt to exercise self-censorship. There have been some unpleasant incidents in recent years, including a serious attack on one of the newspapers. Problems also arise over the government's monopoly on advertising.
The government operates radio services and a TV channel. Private TV stations freely criticise the government.
